Michel Peyrard ENS Lyon special guest at the CRI Paris 15/10/2010

!!!!!!! SORRY CANCELLED DUE TO TRAIN STRIKES !!!!
This conference will be rescheduled

This Friday, October 15th at 17h30 at the CRI, we'll open the year of Interdisciplinary Fridays with a special guest Michel Peyrard who is a biophysicist at ENS Lyon.

He will talk about the "breathing of DNA" as you can read in the abstract following. Don't hesitate to come, you'll surely learn a lot of interesting things as he is a very good scientist with excellent teaching skills !

Investigating the structural fluctuations of DNA: physics or biology ?
Michel Peyrard, Laboratoire de Physique, Ecole Normale Supérieure de Lyon

DNA is not only an essential object of study for biologists, it raises very interesting questions for physicists. It is not the static double helix that structural pictures show. DNA is a highly dynamical molecule that undergoes large amplitude fluctuations which are essential for its biological function.
The talk will present theoretical and experimental studies of these structural fluctuations, and discuss their possible applications for biology . . . and physics.
It will also touch on some side questions such as the role of scienti c journals in science funding or the care needed to build models of complex biological phenomena.
