Qu'est-ce que le CRI ?

Le CRI co-construit et partage de nouvelles manières d'apprendre, d'enseigner, de faire de la recherche et de mobiliser l'intelligence collective dans les domaines des sciences du vivant, de l’apprendre et du numérique pour relever les objectifs de développement durable (ODDs) des Nations Unies.

Le CRI développe et accueille des programmes d’enseignement qui vont de la maternelle au lycée, avec Savanturiers - École de la Recherche, de la licence au doctorat et s’étendent tout au long de la vie, au sein de l’Université de Paris.

Au coeur du CRI se trouvent un collaboratoire de recherche INSERM, un MakerSpace spécialisé en innovation frugale et un laboratoire digital.

Le CRI organise de nombreux évènements ouverts au grand public et conférences internationales et est à l’origine de l’initiative #LearningPlanet en partenariat avec l'AFD et l'UNESCO dont il est aussi titulaire d'une Chaire. Il bénéficie également du soutien de la Ville de Paris, du Plan d'Investissement d'Avenir et de nombreux autres partenaires.

Le CRI a été fondé en 2006 par François Taddei et Ariel Lindner et est accompagné de façon déterminante par la Fondation Bettencourt Schueller depuis ses débuts.

CRI Research Seminar: Nolwenn Lapierre

The use of video-based technologies for older adults’ rehabilitation and aging-in-place.

As a psychomotor therapist, I developed an expertise in older adults’ rehabilitation and research in the field of technologies to support aging-in-place (i.e., aging safely at home while being involved in one’s community).

Two of the biggest threats to aging-in-place are falls and the behavioural symptoms of neurodegenerative disorders (e.g., wandering, agitation). These problematic overburden caregivers, precipitate institutionalisation and complexify the care in those institutions. Technology solutions exist to support older adults and their caregivers. Video-based technologies present advantages to detect, evaluate and intervene for these age-related issues. This presentation aims to expose how video-based technologies can support older adults’ rehabilitation and aging-in-place. Early detection of falls and behavioural symptoms of neurodegenerative disorders at home or in long-term care contribute to reducing their consequences. Despite some prejudices, video-cameras are well accepted to detect dangerous events at home and send alert to caregivers. Technological difficulties can be overcome to successfully implement video-based technologies at home. Likewise, they can inform the causes of the falls and the behavioural symptoms in order to adjust the rehabilitation treatment. Moreover, in the form of exergames (games targeting physical activity) video-based technologies can support the rehabilitation professional to provide older adults with rehabilitation program adapted to the older adults’ abilities, specific health issues, in a fun way that improves their motivation and adherence to the treatment. Ethical considerations regarding users’ privacy and user-centred approaches have guided this work in order to support older adults’ rehabilitation and aging-in-place.

Title Cognitive network science as a proxy for accessing key ideas and emotions in people's minds

Abstract This talk focuses on recent applications of network science to the quantification of cognitive patterns about people's perceptions. The recent field of cognitive network science, at the intersection between computer science, psycholinguistics and complex systems, provides novel tools for reconstructing how people frame and perceive events by means of conceptual associations, sentiment analysis and emotional profiling. Different case studies will be investigated, such as: (i) identifying subjective perceptions of STEM subjects in students and researchers, (ii) reconstructing the emotional profiles of social discourse around the gender gap in science and (iii) the identification of emotional patterns over time within the social discourse of COVID-19. Research gaps and potential bridges with natural language processing and AI will be highlighted, as well as theoretical motivations brought up by the current literature in cognitive science. Cognitive networks provide a transparent access to knowledge structure and its perceptions, opening the way to important future applications for policy making, interpretable AIs and social good.

The Open Law Fund and its partners, HackYourResearch, Où sont les dragons and Open Law, are organizing on november 7th a workshop open to everyone. This event is proposed as part of Remix ta thèse, an experimentation aiming at reappropriating the work of the doctoral students in law.

The event, at the crossroads of research and design, aims to answer the question « Why open your research (thesis, dissertation...), and how to foster the reappropriation of your research by others ?».

CRI Research Seminar: Remy Kusters

Deep learning driven model discovery in biology and physics

In this talk I will introduce DeepMoD, a deep learning based model discovery algorithm which seeks the partial differential equation underlying a spatio-temporal data set. DeepMoD employs sparse regression on a library of basis functions and their corresponding spatial derivatives. A feed-forward neural network approximates the data set and automatic differentiation is used to construct this function library and perform regression within the neural network.We illustrate this approach on several problems in the context of (bio)physics, mechanics and fluid dynamics, such as the Burgers', Korteweg-de Vries, advection-diffusion and Keller-Segel equations, and find that it requires as few as O(100) samples and works at noise levels up to 75%. This resilience to noise and high performance at very few samples allows to apply DeepMoD directly to noisy experimental time-series data, discovering e.g. the advection diffusion equation from a gel electrophoresis experiment.
